Tips for picking a Reliable Extension Socket 2 Copper strands cables

Posted by Surya Tech on

We discovered, in the current UK market, some poor extensions use cables with mixture of aluminum and copper strands.

As aluminum has a much lower melting point, once a higher current passed through, excessive heat may be generated and melt the aluminum strands material.

After the aluminium strands melted, the cross-sectional area of the cable will decrease, and reduce its electrical rating. The remaining cable strands will heated up more seriously and easily caught fire.

A reliable BS extension socket with 3 meter cable, should use at least 1.25mm2 copper strand flexible cables. This cable allows the extension to take up to 13A loading.
